I usually don't have as many problems with the commenters on DA as some people I hear around (lack of a fantard army helps, but I also think my self-reliant aura and serious-lack-of-animu-attitude scares most of the tards away, not like I am complaining) but the few things that I do have irks with seem to happen often enough for me to get annoyed.
One of the most annoying things is when people randomly (and usually very rudely) tell me to spend more time on a piece or to finish it more or that I should upload more worked out illustrative pieces (never asking my why I don't or just generally excited about when my next big illustrative piece is going to be done).
I am an animator at heart, for one, I don't like sitting in one spot for more than three or four hours to do one picture and if I get up and have to come back to it, I probably won't finish it. I am lucky I finish anything at all. I am constantly drawing but it's usually sketches and junk that I don't bother uploading on DA. And when I am at school? HA good luck getting any personal work out of me.
It was especially annoying when I was doing those THOUSANDS of sketch commissions for people and had to upload them for the commissioners and people were complaining about how I "don't color anything anymore". 8| DUDE. They are SUPPOSED to be that way.
I don't have much of a problem when people want to critique about something I am doing wrong, but when they are just telling me how they personally want to see me draw something, I don't get it. They just want to blandly TELL me to finish more of my drawings or on rarer occasions tell me that they personally would have liked this and this and this color instead of the ones I used. Sometimes when I am in a good mood I will be like "Yeah that is interesting, oh well" but after the fifth or sixth comment by some random shmo it is kind of testing to stay neutral.
If you want to tell me what colors to make a character or how done it should have been, commission me, then you get alllll the rein to boss me around and make me your art bitch.
Don't tell an artist how to do their job unless you are paying them >8|

Hi Everyone!!
Johnnie got a long weekend because the 4th was on a Friday. I took a little break from figurine inspection to go to my family's house for a cookout and steamed crabs!! I haven't had them in a long time so I was happy to have a few. If you aren't from Maryland or familiar with crabs this will look totally odd and gross but I assure you they are great! The brown stuff on them is old bay which is a seasoning. Old bay rocks I put it on a lot of things instead of salt like eggs, popcorn, fries etc. A lot of people think I am a vegetarian but I am not, I don't eat mammals...maybe one day I will stop eating animals all together but with Johnnie not wanting to stop eating meat and it is a bit of a pain. I actually came home and worked through the fireworks last night. I did get a private show earlier in the week when my Pop set some off so I didn't totally miss out.

OK how starving was someone to think that they could eat this at all??

Things are about to get interesting, my company is getting an overhaul,I'm dropping dead weight , I am getting equipment I desperately need (A FREAKING MAC!!!!!!!) and there are a lot of things on the horizon that I am very excited about.
I need a figurine break today so I think I will be working on the painting I have been puttering around with.

I am witch, not wiccan.
I am respecting your choosen path but will always follow my own - which makes me solitary.
I am probably gypsy - its why I connect to the places and energy routes, not countries.
I am child of nature - I feel the best when I am outside in the forest or in the garden.
I am sharing my path with many pets - I feel its the best of showing I CARE.
I am sure magic and spirituality is not for "choosen ones" - so I laugh at the "masters" and "gurus" and "only ones" because magic is shared with all who seek it.
I know that magic is many times so funny - so I laugh at the serious faces of those who dont want to hear the joke of it.
I am witch - I know, I will, I dare and I will keep silent because it is the way it is for me.

A lovely 4th. Good food, good company (being Jake), beautiful weather, more hammock time spent unwinding my tired brain. We made homemade bread! My parents unexpectedly bought us a kitchenaid - the REALLY nice model with all-metal construction. Bread has become super easy and delicious. (Though, our OVEN is a bit of a problem. We've got a new one on order, because ours has a short.) I anticipate, what with the prices of things, that we'll be making a lot of fresh bread. $5 for a loaf of wonderbread? I think not. Devoured our farm share today, except for a few bags of greens that we chopped up and froze because they were getting wilty.
In celebration of the fourth, I was a capitalist, and GOT THROUGH THE QUEUE. No, seriously, I finished the EMG queue. Everything is up. That's all she wrote. (Except the silhouette stuff! Still ironing that out, folks!)
I totally prefer to put up little bits of things, not 60 some designs in two days. It's better - saleswise! - to put things up in groups of 5 or 10, and give an impression of freshness and activity. But I also detest making people wait around so long. Some of those pieces have been in the queue since APRIL. I'm sure the artists are just as happy that I'm done already, darn it.
The process IS a lot easier than it used to be. I think that if I can get submissions open a little more frequently (2 or 3x a year), that may make a good balance. Ideally, of course, I'd be able to get work up rather continuous-like, but I just haven't been able to make that happen.
Anyway, go check out the awesome new artwork I've got up: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fan tasyart/
You will be delighted. There are some mind-boggling pieces up. 1391 of them, to be exact, from 188 artists.
*blinks*
Wow. That's a lot!
No wonder I'm tired...

Just like everyone else here, I have had a very bad experience that I wish to report. The artist's name is Modem Redpill, and he's popular on FA. At Anthrocon 2007, I commissioned him to do a $40 commission. He was our roommate. And while he was there, he said he was having financial problems, and he asked if he could borrow $350 for rent. Being new to this artist group I felt that this group were nice and honest, so I lent it to him. After AC 2007, I managed to get at least $51.00 back from the rent loan, according to him, and that was it. Later emails from him became a "pity party" on how much he was in debt, yet I would watch his journals and he'd be going here and buying these items, and spending money, etc. I finally PMd and told him that I wanted to cancel the commission after almost a year of nothing.
Even my Partner emailed him, asking what was going on, and he acted innocent and said that he told me that it might be a little more wait until he got the money. Meanwhile, he attends Further Confusion and other Cons, and from what I heard, did well in artist's alley. My partner again emailed him, and he said that he owed lots of people money, and that I should "get in line." And that he would contact us when he was ready to pay.
Anthrocon 2008 just ended. But before it started, he made a major announcement that he just couldn't be attend AC due to other things. Yes, probably because there were several people who would have asked him for me as to when he would pay me. You see, I'm also a person who has become handicapped since AC, and now in a wheelchair, so the money would have been nice to have back.
I want people to know that he has defaulted on other commissions, too, and I think he's never to be trusted. I stepped out and did him a favor, and got burned.

Many users on dA will have recieved notes asking them to contribute to some scam or other (unwillingly), such as have their 'poetry' printed into a 'special book' that will only cost them $25, that kind of balony.
So I was very wary when approached by The-art-collecter. To submit 'wolf art' to her book.
( The note I recieved )
But basically when you submit your work you recieve exposure, as you can have your details with your work, fair enough. But as far as I know the artists don't recieve any profit from this. So essentially it's like making prints of someone else's work, putting their web address, email on it, and then raking in all the profits for yourself.
Am I over-reacting? Or does something sinister lie like I suspect?
I apologise if this is irrelevent, I just thought this would be the place to ask about this :/

Hope everyone is having a great time today. I certainly have!
I woke up this morning late, so I missed the parade that my celebrity family member was in >.< But thats okay it went well, hehehe and said person had fun. :) I'm sure I'll be seeing pics in the paper.
After that I went with my two brothers and me mummy to go watch the new Incredible Hulk movie. (I haven't seen any of the previous ones). It was pretty typical of the action film, it followed in plot sequence the same as any other generic action film so it was kinda meh, but it was fun at parts. What was really great though was we were the ONLY people in the theatre so my older brother and I had great fun getting into a popcorn toss and I tried my best to make farting noises every time the Hulk had a grimace on his face. 0:D heeheee heeee!!!
After that I went and looked at the little civic that my older brother is rebuilding that he just got running. Nice little car to drive (same year as your's, Rach) has a wider wheel base than my fokey and sits lower to the ground and takes turns quite nicely. Engine is smaller and has more get up and go too.
After that I helped Daddy put freon in my car, tighten up some loose parts having to do with the AC and watched him seal up some leaks I had going in my windshield. Then my daddy showed me this awesome little kinda sorta but not really mini bike and I got to go ride around on it! I rode around for an hour, it was so much fun! 2nd time I'd ever ridden a motorcycle. The first was an itty bitty mini bike. this one was like a full sized Harley but smaller. I asked Daddy if I was ready to get my own Harley yet and he said no, but when I do get one I have to ride it around in the country first because the city was too dangerous. And I have to get my license. >.< *Squee!*
So now I'm home. Its late. I'm thinking about drawing, or debating going to bed. Should prolly go to bed. :/
Happy 4th. :)
